Why is tent camping the best?

Tent camping is an easy getaway. It doesn't have to be complicated, and you can do it just about anywhere you can tote and pitch a tent. From backpacking trips to beach camping, the opportunities for tent camping are just about limitless.  Tent camping is usually the cheaper option. Good tents can be as cheap as $40 and primitive campsites without hook-ups are usually cheaper than spots for RVs. 

• Maintain at least 3 feet of clear area around the tent, free from leaves and dry grass. Use only battery-operated lights in or near tents and never use heaters that emit carbon monoxide in your tent or camping vehicle. Mark tent stakes and poles with bright fabrics or tennis balls to avoid tripping. 

What should you not keep in a tent?

Never leave food, trash, or other scented products inside your tent. Never leave your food unattended. Jays, squirrels, and chipmunks can quickly snatch food in broad daylight, and other animals come foraging at night. 

Where do you put food when camping?

Place containers on flat, level ground 100 feet or more from your campsite. Do NOT place containers near cliffs or any water source, as a bear may knock the container around or roll it down a hill trying to open it. Do NOT attach anything to containers. Ropes attached to containers enable a bear to carry it away.

Tips To Stay Warm When Tent Camping

Though it won’t always be cold when you’re camping, you’ll want to prepare for the times when it may be. Or, if you’re someone who usually runs cold, these tips will make camping much more comfortable for you.

Before bed:

• Drink tea. Or another warm drink. This will help keep your body temperature up while you’re drifting off to sleep.

• Do some exercise. You don’t want to work up a sweat, but doing something simple like a couple of burpees will heat up your body.

• Eat something small. Your body digesting that bit of food will help keep you warm, and will thus help you feel more comfortable.

• Put on your long underwear and some clean socks. Put dry clothes inside your sleeping bag. This will help fill any empty space in your bag which will keep the head closer to you.

• Wear a knit hat.
• Sleep with a warm water bottle. The best place to put the warm water bottle is somewhere near your core.

• Close the sleeping bag up. You may even want to do this to the point where your nose and mouth are the only things in the open.
